Susan Findlay Jing Massage Conference2.15pm – 3.00pm: Susan Findlay – What is Integrative Oncology Massage?

We’re now coming out of the dark ages wherein oncology massage historically has been considered a contraindication. Emerging is a holistic form of soft tissue therapy that engages the clients’ wellbeing both physically and emotionally. But what is integrative oncology massage? What makes it different from any form of massage? Susan will discuss the importance of integrating a variety of touch therapies, recognising that massage is one of the best therapies for trauma survivors and cancer is a trauma. The need for somatic work for recovery is vital, it is all about being able to get back into the body.

Susan Harrison Jing Massage Conference3.00pm – 3.45pm Susan Harrison – Working with the Long Covid Client

As of April 2021, it is estimated that there are 1.1 million people in the UK living with long Covid, according to the Office of National Statistics: a condition that did not exist one year ago. With many massage therapists being independent self-employed practitioners, how can we best inform ourselves for treating this new cohort of clients? This dynamic presentation explores some ideas to develop our clinical reasoning behind our treatments based on the experience of those within the medical profession to help our clients suffering with Long Covid symptoms.

Susan Salvo Jing Massage Conference3.45pm – 4.30pm Susan Salvo – Body Mobilisation Techniques

Body mobilisation techniques (BMT) are a set of passive body movements based on principles of neuroscience and the biopsychosocial model to reduce pain, decrease stress, and improve function. BMT is gentle enough for children and the elderly and, because of its non-invasive nature, appropriate for clients dealing with psychosocial issues such as anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder, as well as all types of physical rehabilitation. BMT is portable and practical, does not require special equipment, and clients remain clothed. This method can be combined with other techniques or used exclusively in a session. Come learn how to revolutionize your treatment protocols and improve treatment outcomes.

Cathy Ryan Jing Massage Conference4.30pm – 5.15pm Cathy Ryan‘You know that’s not my shoulder … right?’ – Scar Tissue, Pain and the Non-linear.

Scar tissue isn’t always problematic – it constructs us back together when tissue integrity has been disrupted. However, the renovation, not always homogenous, may be a source of ongoing pain and dysfunction. Manual therapy intervention during renovation can help facilitate better outcomes for our clients, including reducing the risk of pain translation and functional declines.
