Bubbles, books & bad backs: Launch of new book by Brighton massage duo brings hope to chronic pain sufferers

Bubbles and books at Brighton’s Bond Street

Local entrepreneurs Rachel Fairweather and Meghan Mari raised the rafters recently at the launch party of their new book “Massage Fusion; The Jing method for the treatment of chronic pain”. Their dream is that the book will help manual therapists more effectively help the thousands in the UK who suffer from persistent muscular pain.

Rachel and Meghan, the dynamic founders of the Brighton based training company Jing Advanced Massage (www.jingmassage.com) have co-authored a book taking a fresh new look at the treatment of common chronic musculoskeletal pain such as back pain, herniated disc problems, neck pain, whiplash, headaches & frozen shoulder.

Judging by the frenzied reception the duo received from a roomful of enthusiastic massage therapists who have been using their approach, the duo may be onto something! Crowds stamped and cheered their encouragement for this popular duo who have single handedly raised the profile of professional massage therapy in the UK through a string of successes, including the UK’s only degree level course in massage therapy.

The scourge of musculoskeletal pain

Aimed at all manual therapists, the book argues that persistent musculoskeletal pain cannot be fixed by a “one size fits all” approach but that treatments must be tailored to the individual and take into account not just physical factors but psychological ones too.

Director and author Rachel Fairweather explained:

“Chronic muscular pain is a scourge in our society and affects over 45% of the UK population resulting in thousands of days of lost income and untold misery. We hope that this book goes towards offering all complementary therapists a tried and tested evidence based blueprint for approaching chronic pain conditions with confidence.”

Co-author, Meghan Mari, added, “Because muscular pain is so complex there are many people who finally come to massage therapy for relief because they have already run the gamut of traditional options and are still in pain. The Jing method aims to reduce pain in 1-6 weekly treatments and we are happy that thousands of Jing trained therapists are using these techniques with good effect all over the UK”.

The Jing revolution

In the short time since it has been published the book has already hit number one on the Physiotherapy bestsellers category on Amazon UK and is to be translated into Korean. The book is the latest venture in a wave of successes for Jing, which was founded in 2003 in a small front room and has taken the UK massage world by storm since by breaking down old boundaries and celebrating the rich dichotomy of art and science, East and West, and philosophy and psychology.

Now an innovative movement, having embraced 10,000 massage therapists around the world, Jing illustrates the magic in the fusion that happens when these worlds collide.
