Positive Touch for Children: Thursday 1st March 6.30-9.30pm with Mary Atkinson

Research has shown that positive, nurturing touch can help boost self-esteem in young people and enable them to cope better with anxiety and stress. This lively, interactive session will share some simple touch techniques and suggestions that have been ‘tried and tested’ by therapists, parents and, of course, children. You have a chance to experience these fun activities and enjoy the benefits for yourself. We will also discuss ways in which touch techniques can be used creatively with children of all ages. 

Mary Atkinson is an acclaimed author and trainer and winner of the 2010 CAM Expo outstanding achievement award. She is an instructor on the Massage in Schools Programme and a MISA (Massage in Schools Association) committee member helping to spread the vision of positive touch for children in school and home. Her latest massage book, Healing Touch for Children, a guide to massage, reflexology and acupressure for children aged 4-12, has now been translated into fourteen languages.

In this exciting series of evening workshops, Suzy Daw, physiotherapist and movement teacher, explores a range of physiotherapy techniques specifically adapted for the needs of the massage therapist. You will gain a solid theoretical and hands on introduction to techniques that really work in clinical practice for the treatment and rehabilitation of pain conditions. Each workshop explores a different part of the body with a range of advanced techniques including:

Learning assessment tools to help towards making a diagnosis
Effective Physiotherapy Mobilisation and accessory techniques to help relieve pain, reduce inflammation, reduce stiffness and help restore normal movement and healing to the musculoskeletal system
Rehab exercises for the joint

We will be showing J.C.Guimberteau’s compelling video, “Strolling Under the Skin” which received critical acclaim at the Fascial Research Conference in 2007. This film contains some of the most amazing images of living fascia ever developed. Dr. Jean Claude Guimberteau, a plastic and hand surgeon, has created this beautiful film of images of living fascia in a living person. Learn how the collagen, ground substance water and fat work together to make the ‘sliding system’ – the body’s interconnected system of loose connective tissue.
